When memory is critically low, Claude Code can stop running shell commands to free memory. Before, it would stop any running shell task it had not yet reported on. It now stops a task only if it is a shell command whose status is backgrounded.\n\nThis cleanup can be switched off with the environment variable `CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_BG_SHELL_PRESSURE_REAP`.\n\n**Why**\n\nA shell command running in the foreground is no longer stopped because memory is low.\n\n- Area: Process Management\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 2\/5\n- Signal: 1\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
