It sorts them by kind (such as staged uploads, message images and message PDFs) and by size range. It also notes whether each file was read, using file access times. That last check only runs on ext4 drives that are not set to skip recording access times.\n\nIt then sends telemetry (usage data sent back to Anthropic) as `headless_uploads_census` events. These contain file counts, approximate total size, and whether the list was cut short. It skips the count if the drive does not suit the check or the folder cannot be read. After any error it reports `census_failed` and stops for the rest of the session.\n\nA remote switch controls this, and it is on unless it is switched off remotely.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis is a new way of collecting data, but it only runs in hosted or cloud workers. Ordinary command-line sessions on your own machine do not run it.\n\n- Flag `tengu_wild_hamster`: Not enough to say (read for one account on one subscription tier against v2.1.314; this account: no value returned, anonymous baseline: no value returned, compiled default: on) These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.\n- Area: Telemetry\n- Tier: Under the hood\n- Useful: 1\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
