A tool call is one request from Claude to use a tool, such as running a command or editing a file. A hook is a script you or a plugin set up to run at certain moments, and a hook can change a tool call's input after auto mode has reviewed it. When that happens, the reviewed version no longer matches what would run, so the call is refused.\n\nThe message Claude gets when this happens can now be more specific:\n\n- If the rewritten input can be shown, the message quotes what the hook produced and tells Claude to reissue the call once, in a response of its own.\n\n- If the input is too long or cannot be written out, the message tells Claude to stop and tell you.\n\nThe older, single message is still used in other cases. It told Claude to try once more and then give up.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis changes how Claude recovers when hooks or plugins rewrite its tool calls under auto mode. Claude can now see what will actually run, and when it cannot, it brings the problem to you instead of retrying blindly.\n\n- Area: Auto Mode\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 2\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
