Claude Code changes which environment variables it passes to a new background session. An environment variable is a named value set in your shell that programs can read.\n\n- `ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL` is no longer passed when the background session starts in a different folder from the current one. This variable sends requests through a proxy or gateway instead of the default address. Claude Code notes in its log when it leaves the variable out.\n\n- `CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_MODEL` is now passed to background sessions.\n\n**Why**\n\nIf you route Claude Code through a proxy or gateway and start background sessions in other directories, those sessions do not pick up your `ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL`. Set it for those folders yourself if they should use the same endpoint.\n\n- Area: Sessions\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 3\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: yes"}
