Claude Code can prepare that summary in advance, before it is needed.\n\nThat advance preparation can now be started because the session is idle, meaning nothing is happening in it. When it starts for this reason:\n\n- the usual check on whether advance preparation is allowed is skipped\n\n- failures are not counted and do not use up the limit on retries\n\n- the record of the pending summary notes that it was started while idle\n\nThe usage reports sent when a prepared summary fails or is ready now also say what started it.\n\n**Why**\n\nPreparing the summary during quiet moments means a later compaction may finish faster, because some of the work is already done.\n\n- Area: Compaction\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 3\/5\n- Signal: 3\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
