A hook is a point where a plugin can step in and add its own behaviour. Here, plugins can answer with suggestion rows, and Claude Code draws them beneath its own suggestions in the order the hooks answered.\n\nA matching request lets another app ask Claude Code for these suggestions while someone types elsewhere. That app could be the desktop app, the mobile app or the VS Code extension. The request is checked before it is accepted:\n\n- `text`: a string of at most 1,000,000 characters\n\n- `cursor`: a whole number of 0 or more\n\n- `surface` (optional): `desktop`, `mobile` or `vscode`\n\n- `client_id` (optional): 1 to 64 letters, digits, dots, underscores or hyphens\n\nThere is also a local path for Claude Code's own prompt box.\n\n**Why**\n\nPlugins get a new way to offer prompt completions, and those completions can reach composers outside the terminal. The feature may not be fully switched on yet.\n\n- Area: Plugins\n- Names: `prompt.autocomplete`\n- Tier: Use it now\n- Useful: 5\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: no"}
