It used to be one value for all models. It can now differ by model:\n\n- `autoCompactWindow` can be set inside `modelSettings` for a model, in tokens (100000 to 1000000) or `auto`. It is read both at the top level and per model, and combined across settings files.\n\n- The value can also be an object with `byModel` and `default`. `auto` falls back to the later sources: server-provided data, any experiment, then the model's own default.\n\n- `\/autocompact` saves to the per-model setting.\n\n- `\/config` and the auto-compact dialog now name the model, for example \"Auto-compact window for \" and \"Current setting for \", and the set and reset messages say the same.\n\n- The message about the `CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_COMPACT_WINDOW` environment variable override is unchanged.\n\n**Why**\n\nA window you set while using one model no longer applies to every other model, so models with different context sizes can each compact at a point that suits them.\n\n- Area: Compaction\n- Names: `byModel`\n- Tier: Use it now\n- Useful: 4\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5\n- Scope: individual\n- Heads-up: yes"}
