A plugin is an add-on that extends Claude Code. While Claude works, a side agent (a separate helper running alongside the main conversation) may offer one learning topic above the prompt box.\n\n- The suggestion offers choices such as Learn more, Knew this already and Dismiss. Learn more can produce an explanation or a private learning page.\n\n- The plugin is registered with `defaultEnabled: !1`, meaning it is off until you turn it on.\n\n- It is not registered when Claude Code runs with the `local-agent` entrypoint.\n\n- An availability check leaves out HIPAA, ZDR and LDR accounts and also checks one more gate.\n\n- It hooks into `prompt.submit`, `command.run`, `turn.step`, `ui.render` and `session.detach`, the points where you send a prompt, run a command, Claude takes a step, the screen is drawn and a session is detached.\n\n- It reads the environment variables `CLAUDE_CODE_YOU_SHOULD_KNOW_DEBUG` and `USER_TYPE`, and keeps an `aboutOpen` state value. Setting `CLAUDE_CODE_YOU_SHOULD_KNOW_DEBUG` shows a debug row for each check.\n\n- `\/plugin disable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin` turns it off.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis is a complete feature with its own prompt, but it stays off unless enabled and depends on account type and a gate. If you do turn it on and find the suggestions distracting, `\/plugin disable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin` removes them.\n\n- Area: Plugins\n- Names: `cc-plugin-you-should-know`\n- Tier: You'll notice\n- Useful: 5\/5\n- Signal: 4\/5"}
