This handoff is on by default, and setting the `CLAUDE_DISABLE_ADOPT` environment variable turns it off.\n\nThe variable is now checked in more places. Handoff when a session exits in the background is one of them. Checks on agents, which are helpers Claude runs to do part of a task, are another, along with checks on whether a frame is still live and one further check.\n\n**Why**\n\nIf you set `CLAUDE_DISABLE_ADOPT` to stop work being handed from one session to another, it now reaches further into Claude Code. It remains on by default when the variable is not set.\n\n- Area: Background Tasks\n- Names: `CLAUDE_DISABLE_ADOPT`\n- Tier: Use it now\n- Useful: 3\/5\n- Signal: 2\/5"}
