When a session is asked to start in auto mode, Claude Code now first checks whether the account or session is marked as covered by HIPAA, the US health privacy law. If it is, auto mode is not started. Before, only the usual check for whether auto mode was available was made.\n\n**Why**\n\nIf your account or session carries this HIPAA marker, auto mode will not start and no error explains it.
