Previously, setting the environment variable `CLAUDE_CODE_WEBSEARCH_USE_CCR_PROXY` (an environment variable is a named value set in your shell before starting Claude Code) switched fast mode off unless you also set `CLAUDE_CODE_WEBSEARCH_CCR_PROXY_FAST`. That exception has been removed, and `CLAUDE_CODE_WEBSEARCH_CCR_PROXY_FAST` is no longer read at all.\n\nWhether fast mode is used is still decided by `CLAUDE_CODE_WEB_SEARCH_FAST_ARG` or by a remote setting that is off unless it is switched on remotely.\n\nWhen fast web search is in use, the usage events Claude Code records for the `WebSearch` tool now also note whether a search ran in \"standard\" or \"extended\" mode.\n\n**Why**\n\nIf you route web search through the proxy, you no longer need the extra variable to be eligible for fast mode.
