It now checks first whether a path is an ordinary file. If the path is something else, such as a named pipe or a device, the reader fails with `EINVAL: not a regular file` and drops anything it had kept for that path. Before, it tried to read the path anyway.\n\n**Why**\n\nReading a pipe or a device as if it were a file can hang or return data that makes no sense.
