The tracking starts when the box is empty. It stays in place as long as every change is a single typed character or a single deletion.\n\nPutting text in any other way clears it, including:\n\n- pasting\n\n- editing the prompt in an external editor\n\n- recalling an earlier prompt from history\n\nWhen you send a prompt that was typed entirely by hand, Claude Code passes a marker along with it.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis looks like preparation for handling hand-typed prompts differently from pasted or inserted ones.
