It takes a whole number of at least 40, meaning a number of terminal columns (character positions across the screen). When it is set, the written text in Claude's responses wraps at that width:\n\n- paragraphs\n\n- headings\n\n- lists\n\n- blockquotes\n\nTables and code blocks are not capped and still use the full width of your terminal. If a code block or table sits inside a blockquote, it breaks out to full width while the quoted text around it stays capped. The setting lives in the same settings file as `syntaxHighlightingDisabled`. If you leave it unset, which is the default, text uses the full terminal width as before.\n\n**Why**\n\nOn a very wide terminal, long lines of text are hard to read.
